One of the best lessons I have learned in life is if you really want to succeed in life, you need to figure out where your passion lies and run with it. You’ll never get anywhere with half-baked, start and stop career moves or job hopping or just working any miserable job because it pays well.
But what if you don’t know what your passion is? What of you are stuck, or feel lost? When you don’t know what you love, what you want to be doing, or how to get where you want to be, try some of my top tips in order to help you find your passion and unlock your potential.
Going back to basics:
One good way to find your passion is to create a mind map. Set a timer for say 15 minutes and write, write, write about your dream life. Do it in great detail but don’t worry if it’s not perfect, the key is to get it written down. You should see a pattern emerge. From there, you can put together a plan to get started on your new path or perhaps just pick up the pace a bit on the course you are on now.
Take a step back:
Sometimes you need to take a break from everything and reset your brain a bit. This isn’t quitting or giving up, no, it is simply taking the opportunity to let things rest a bit while your subconscious mind works on it. Use this time to explore your options. Perhaps it is time for a new career – the career you really want – or maybe it is time to go back to school and upgrade existing skills – or start that business you have always wanted. The beauty of this is that it’s up to you.
Change your strategy:
If you know what you are passionate about but haven’t done much about it, now is the time to get in gear. A lot of people dream about the life they want but dreaming will get you nowhere; you need to change what you are doing and take action. You don’t want to end up 90 years old but not having really lived, do you? No, of course not.
Be authentic:
Once you are in tune with your passion, go with it. Be yourself. Be real. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The idea is to be you. This means if you want to be a novelist, you’ll write novels. If you want to paint, don’t let someone cajole you into doing ceramics. If you want to be a beach bum, find a way to support yourself and do it. The point is to do what you want to do.
Make time for learning:
Be a lifelong learner! Don’t let a lack of education stop you! Thanks to the internet you can take online courses in just about anything nowadays. Don’t be afraid to try something new or to upgrade your skills, it can’t hurt and you never know, you could be just one course away from the life you are dreaming about.
Now go do it!
If you really want to excel at something, you’ll need to feel the passion and put yourself into it 100%. Find something you love to do, do it well, and focus, focus, focus on it. Let your passion spill over into your everyday life and before you know it, you’ll become one with your definite purpose in life and you’ll succeed beyond your wildest dreams. This has been the formula for success for countless brilliant minds in history. I can’t wait for you to be next.
